Cwrs Rhith 2020 ~ Virtual Welsh Course

We are happy to announce that we will be offering a Cwrs Cymraeg this summer in virtual format! This will be a mini-course featuring three levels of Welsh: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. Two sessions per level will be available over the weekend of July 24th through 26th, and you can sign up for one or both sessions at your desired level. Sessions will be 90 minutes each, and will take place using Zoom.

In contrast to our usual course structure, the Cwrs Rhith (Virtual Course) will be in “siop siarad” format, with activities and conversation topics up to each individual tutor. We will be sending out more information about our slate of tutors soon, but past Cwrs Cymraeg attendees will recognize some names from past courses:  Rob Davis, Christine McSorley, Ceri Phillips, Hefina Phillips,  Chris Reynolds, and Owen Saer. As always, we are proud to bring in Welsh teachers from both Wales and North America.

Ceri Phillips
Su’mai, Ceri ydw i a rwy’n diwtor llawn amser i Fwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Betsi Cadwaladr. Fel arfer, pan ddim o dan ‘lockdown’ rwy’n dysgu staff gofal iechyd, meddygol a gweinyddol i siarad Cymraeg. Ar hyn o bryd rwy’n gweithio ar yr hwb profi preswylwyr a gweithwyr gofal sy’n gweithio mewn catrefi gofal, mai wedi bod yn brysur iawn ond erbyn hyn mae pethau yn dechrau tawelu a dychwelyd i ryw fath o normalrwydd. Yn fy amser sbâr rwy’n mwynhau rhedeg, cerdded mynyddoedd a chymdeithasu gyda ffrindiau. Rwyf hefyd yn gwneud dipyn o actio amateraidd gyda chwmni drama Penmachno (lle rydw i’n byw yng Ngogledd Cymru). Rwy’n edrych ymlaen yn arw at y cwrs neu siop siarad rhithiol ac i gyfarfod a hen wynebau a rhai newydd 🙂

Hefina Phillips
Helo bawb. Antur newydd – cwrs Cymdeithas Madog ar lein! Dw i’n dod o Gwm Tawe, De Cymru yn wreiddiol ond yn byw yn Ontario ers nifer o flynyddoedd. Yn ffodus dw i’n cael digon o gyfle i siarad Cymraeg, hyd yn oed yn Canada. Pan byddwn yn “cwrdd” ar lein bydda i am wybod popeth amdanoch chi- gan gynnwys sut ‘dych chi’n ymdopi yn ystod yr argyfwng arswydus hwn. Byddwn hefyd yn trafod barddoniaeth Gymraeg a’r mesurau caeth- wel o leua y rhai mwya hawdd.

Since learning the language back in the late 1980s, Chris Reynolds has been involved in Welsh for Adults for the last 30 years in various roles, as a tutor, development officer, organiser, training officer and working with the National Eisteddfod. Currently Senior Tutor Organiser at Swansea University with Learn Welsh Swansea Bay Area. Has been a regular tutor with Cymdeithas Madog over the last few years.

Owen Saer is from Cardiff, and was raised in a Welsh-speaking home. He attended Welsh-medium schools, before reading Japanese and Linguistics at the University of London. He taught English abroad (in Japan, South Korea, Hungary and North Korea) before returning to Wales to teach Welsh. He has taught in the community and in schools. He now runs his own business while continuing to teach languages (online only at the moment, naturally). His leisure activities include performing music (singing, piano, clarinet), learning languages, cooking, and tropical fish.
