Cymdeithas Madog is happy to provide in-person and online Welsh language instruction and speaking opportunities, but we know sometimes learners need something more.  

Below, you’ll find a list of additional Welsh learning resources compiled by our tutors and board members.  If you have any you’d like to add to our list or questions about the links below, you can contact president@madog.org.

Dysgu Cymraeg - Study Welsh

The following resources are recommended by our tutors as useful ways to study the language when you’re not on one of our courses.

Duolingo is one of the most popular apps for learning Welsh, which offers spoken and written instruction in a fun game format.

Say Something in Welsh is a long-time contributor to online Welsh learning, offering audio courses in both Northern and Southern Welsh dialects, a new One Sentence in Welsh course and other paid options.

Wordwall is a site full of user-created games for learning lots of different subjects, and there’s a whole section full of Welsh Language Learning Games.  A couple of recommendations from our tutor Llinos Griffin include Gofyn Cwestiwn and Lliwiau.

Doctor Cymraeg is another site with lots of Welsh language learning resources, including blogs, videos and a podcast.

Darllen Cymraeg - Read Welsh

Gwales is a wonderful resource for purchasing Welsh language books and study materials.  An added bonus is that purchasing books through Gwales supports local Welsh writers and booksellers.

Y Lolfa is a Welsh publishing house that also sells books online.  Check out the section of their catalog especially for learners.

Parallel is a bilingual Welsh and English online magazine with great articles for practicing their Welsh.  Their site also has a section for learners.

Lingo360 is another online magazine with articles suitable for learners which include useful vocabulary lists and other aids.

Golwg360 is another online Welsh language magazine with interesting articles about Welsh current events and culture.

BBC Cymru Fyw is the BBC’s Welsh language news site.

Gweld & Gwrando ar Gymraeg - Watch & Listen to Welsh

Y Pod is a great resource for finding Welsh podcasts about all kinds of topics, which is a great way to learn new vocabulary about a particular field in which you’re interested.

AM Cymru is a website with lots of wonderful Welsh videos, podcasts and articles focusing on the arts in Wales.

S4C Clic is the website for the Welsh language television channel, S4C.  You can watch some programs and videos for free on their website, but there may be restrictions for those living outside the UK.

Cymdeithasau Cymreig - Welsh Societies

The Welsh Society of Western New England (WSWNE) is a society celebrating Welsh language, geneology and culture in the Western New England area.  Check out their events page to find out what they’re up to.

The Vancouver Welsh Society has been learning and celebrating Welsh language and culture in Vancouver, British Columbia since 1929.  Their website also offers a section of Welsh Lessons created by one of Cymdeithas Madog’s tutors, Antone Minard.

The North American Festival of Wales holds annual meetings in cities all around North America celebrating Welsh culture.

Located in Wymore, Nebraska, the Great Plains Welsh Heritage Centre focuses on interpreting the influence of Welsh culture on the Great Plains region of the United States.

Ninnau is a North American newspaper featuring articles about the North American Welsh community.
