Cwrs Rhith January 2024

Cwrs Rhith Ionawr 2024 ~ Virtual Welsh Course January 2024

We invite you to register for our annual Winter virtual Cwrs! This will be a mini-course featuring three levels of Welsh: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. Three sessions per level will be available over the weekend of January 20 through 22, and you can sign up for one, two, or all three sessions at your desired level. Sessions will be 90 minutes each, and will take place using Zoom.

In contrast to our usual course structure, the Cwrs Rhith (Virtual Course) will be in an informal “siop siarad” format, with activities and conversation topics up to each individual tutor. Registered participants are also able to register for an optional presentation by Rhys Mwyn on archaeology and place.  There will also be a brief Dosbarth ar y Cyd (plenary session) at the end of the weekend.

Teitl y sgwrs : Archaeoleg a Lle / Archaeology and Place

Bydd y sgwrs yn edrych ar sut gallwn ddefnyddio archaeoleg i ddehongli a deall y lle yn well. Sut mae’r dirwedd yn newid dros amser a beth yw ein perthynas hefo’r dirwedd .

The talk will look at how archaeology can be used as a tool to understand and interpret the landscape. How the landscape changes over time and our relationship with the landscape.

Tutor Bios

Tim Doughty bought his first “Welsh for Learners” book in 1979. In those pre-internet days, learning Welsh was a lonely process. After many stops and starts along the way he finally entered the light at the end of the tunnel. During his visit to Wales in 2019 he found that, yes, he is a Welsh speaker, and so are you!

Prynodd Tim Doughty ei lyfr cyntaf i ddysgwyr “Welsh for Learners” ym 1979. Proses unig iawn oedd dysgu Cymraeg ar yr adeg hwnnw cyn y rhyngrwyd, ond ar ôl y Cwrs Cymraeg yn Berkeley, California, ym 1998, dechreuodd pethau wella’n gyflym. Rŵan mae Tim yn weithgar mewn Siop Siarad (grŵp sgwrs Cymraeg) a chyfryngau cymdeithasol Cymraeg. Mae o wedi profi ei sgiliau Cymraeg drwy sawl daith i Gymru.

Llinos Griffin is an experienced tutor of Welsh, and has taught language in Spain, France and Patagonia.  She currently teaches Welsh to people across the globe through Skype, including Welsh sessions for visitors to her area held in the picturesque former Gunpowder Works in Penrhyndeudraeth, where language, history and nature become one.

Mae Llinos Griffin yn diwtor Cymraeg ers dros 12 mlynedd bellach ac wedi gweithio yn Yr Wladfa ac yng nghanolfan iaith genedlaethol Nant Gwrtheyrn cyn dechrau ei busnes ei hun yn dysgu Cymraeg ar-lein i bobl o bedwar ban byd ers 2014. Yn byw ym Mhenrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, mae hi hefyd yn cynnig gwersi Cymraeg i ymwelwyr sy’n dod ar eu gwyliau i’r ardal. Yn ei hamser sbar, mae hi’n mwynhau cerdded ym mynyddoedd Eryri, gwneud gwaith celf, darllen a theithio.

Oliver Llewelyn grew up hearing stories of Wales and was first introduced to the “Iaith y Nefoedd” by his maternal grandfather. Although he may not have been fluent, his tad-cu knew enough to keep the language alive, and Oliver has been working hard to resurrect the language within his family ever since. Keeping Yr Hen Iaith alive is a deeply personal affair for Oliver, but that’s not to say there’s not some fun to be had along the way!  A native of the UK, Oliver has been living in the US for 8 years and currently works as a high school Chemistry and Physics teacher in Maryland.

Magwyd Oliver yn clywed straeon am Gymru a chyflwynwyd ef i Iaith y Nefoedd y tro cyntaf gan ei dad-cu mam. Er na siaradai’r iaith yn rhugl, roedd yn cofio digon i’w chadw’n fyw ac mae Oliver wedi bod yn brwydro i atgyfodi yr iaith yn ei deulu. Mae cadw Yr Hen Iaith yn fyw yn achos hynod bersonol i Oliver ond nid yw hyn yn golygu nad oes hwyl i’w chael ar hyd y daith.  Mae Oliver yn dod o Brydain yn wreiddiol ac mae fe wedi byw yn yr Unol Daleithiau am 8 mylnedd ac yn dysgu Cemeg a Ffiseg mewn ysgol uwchradd yn Maryland.
