Cwrs Rhith Ionawr 2025
January 24, 2025 - January 26, 2025
Cwrs Rhith Ionawr 2025 ~ Virtual Welsh Course January 2025
Registration will open soon.
We invite you to register for our annual Winter virtual Cwrs! This will be a mini-course featuring three levels of Welsh: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. Three sessions per level will be available over the weekend of January 24 through 26, you can sign up for one, two, or all three sessions at your desired level. Sessions will be 90 minutes each, and will take place using Zoom.
In contrast to our usual in person course structure, the Cwrs Rhith (Virtual Course) will be in an informal “siop siarad” format, with activities and conversation topics created by each individual tutor.
Registered participants are also able to register for an optional presentation by Huw Webber on
Welsh late 19th century history, including why Wales didn’t opt for independence.
Also included in the weekend will be two pronunciation sessions run by Christine McSorley. She will go through “Yr Wyddor” the Welsh alphabet with you, to practice the sounds and build your vocabulary as you go through the letters. As you know Welsh is very phonetical “what you see is what you say”

Tutor Bios
Level One
Tim Doughty bought his first “Welsh for Learners” book in 1979. In those pre-internet days, learning Welsh was a lonely process. After many stops and starts along the way he finally entered the light at the end of the tunnel. During his visit to Wales in 2019 he found that, yes, he is a Welsh speaker, and so are you!
Prynodd Tim Doughty ei lyfr cyntaf i ddysgwyr “Welsh for Learners” ym 1979. Proses unig iawn oedd dysgu Cymraeg ar yr adeg hwnnw cyn y rhyngrwyd, ond ar ôl y Cwrs Cymraeg yn Berkeley, California, ym 1998, dechreuodd pethau wella’n gyflym. Rŵan mae Tim yn weithgar mewn Siop Siarad (grŵp sgwrs Cymraeg) a chyfryngau cymdeithasol Cymraeg. Mae o wedi profi ei sgiliau Cymraeg drwy sawl daith i Gymru.
Level Two
Brodor o Gaerdydd yw Owen Saer. Ei brif ddiddordebau yw ieithoedd a cherddoriaeth. Ers y tro diwetha iddo ddysgu ar Gwrs Madog yn Oregon yn 2015, mae Owen wedi caffael cymhwyster Tystysgrif Addysgu i Raddedigion, sy’n golygu ei fod yn gymwys i ddysgu Cymraeg mewn ysgolion uwchradd yng Nghymru (bu hyn yn ddefnyddiol iawn yn ystod y Clo Mawr!). Ei brif weithgaredd bellach yw rhedeg cwmni glanhau domestig yng Nghaerdydd, tra’n parhau i ddysgu oedolion unigol, ac ambell i weithgaredd cerddorol yma ac acw.
Owen Saer is a native of Cardiff. His main interests are languages and music.Since he last taught on Cwrs Madog in Oregon in 2015, Owen has gained a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), which qualifies him to teach in secondary schools in Wales (this proved very useful during the Lockdown!). His main occupation nowadays is running a domestic cleaning business in Cardiff, while continuing to teach individual adults, and the occasional musical engagement here and there.
Level Three
Mae Llinos Griffin yn diwtor Cymraeg ers dros 12 mlynedd bellach ac wedi gweithio yn Yr Wladfa ac yng nghanolfan iaith genedlaethol Nant Gwrtheyrn cyn dechrau ei busnes ei hun yn dysgu Cymraeg ar-lein i bobl o bedwar ban byd ers 2014. Yn byw ym Mhenrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, mae hi hefyd yn cynnig gwersi Cymraeg i ymwelwyr sy’n dod ar eu gwyliau i’r ardal. Yn ei hamser sbar, mae hi’n mwynhau cerdded ym mynyddoedd Eryri, gwneud gwaith celf, darllen a theithio.
Llinos Griffin is an experienced tutor of Welsh, and has taught language in Spain, France and Patagonia. She currently teaches Welsh to people across the globe through Skype, including Welsh sessions for visitors to her area held in the picturesque former Gunpowder Works in Penrhyndeudraeth, where language, history and nature become one.
